ARTIST STATEMENT

In my work as an artist, I primarily explore complicated topics related to feminism, intimacy anxiety, and mental health. I aim to shed light on the intensely personal and frequently misunderstood and complicated experiences that shape our lives through the use of printmaking, mixed media installations, photography, and many other media. I want to show how cultural standards and societal expectations affect how we perceive ourselves and the world around us.  I construct thought-provoking environments that subvert conventional ideas of femininity and gender roles by experimenting with a variety of mediums, objects, and materials. As well as highlighting how such experiences can be both liberating and terrifying, I also aim to capture their visceral character. I want to be able to bridge the divide between social service and art as a form of therapy because I have experience working at a social service organization.  My ultimate aim as an artist is to use my work to open a conversation and foster a better understanding of the complicated and frequently challenging issues that affect our daily lives. I want to make the world a better place by questioning our presumptions and pushing us to delve deeply into our own experiences.
